Our Ministers

Senior Minister:

Reverend Stacy E.F. Emerson was selected by the congregation as the Senior Minister of Union Baptist Church in March, 2009. Reverend Emerson served as Associate Minister at Union Baptist Church since 1999.

Reverend Emerson grew up in Mystic and with her family attended Old Mystic Baptist Church. She received degrees from Elizabethtown College and Andover Newton Theological School and was ordained in 1996. She previously served as Chaplain Resident for a retirement home in Concord, NH, and Associate Minster at the First Baptist Church of Branford, before becoming the Associate Minister at Union Baptist Church.
Active regionally and nationally, Reverend Emerson was co-director of the 2004 National Youth Gathering, and has served as president of the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut and president of the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council.

Ministerial Priorities

During the visioning process that took place at Union Baptist Church between 2008 and 2009, the ministerial qualities of Reverend Emersion were enumerated:

Interpreting the Faith-Reverend Emerson has made scripture relevant to our lives and will continue to help us all explore our faith.

Preaching-Reverend Emerson has inspired and challenged us with her preaching even as she has grown in her own faith journey.

Pastoral Care-Reverend Emerson has worked tirelessly as a spiritually and personally supportive pastor, and working through the Caring Committee has encourage us all to minister in support of each other.

Nurturing Fellowship-Reverend Emerson has demonstrated the ability to help each of us to nurture and sustain our relationships with one another as we pursue God's mission for us and for our Church.

Stewardship-Reverend Emerson challenges us to find creative ways to celebrate and be good stewards of the gifts and talents we have all been given.

Leadership and Development-Reverend Emerson continues to justify our reputation as a "Leader Church" through leadership roles at American Baptist Churches of Connecticut and by encouraging us all to shoulder greater responsibilities.

Church Growth-Reverend Emerson has shown her commitment to help us grow beyond our own walls and into the community through her involvement in the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council and broader American Baptist Communities.

Personnel Supervision-Reverend Emerson has shown that she not only has the capacity to inspire and encourage us, but also understands and supports other staff in their ministries.

Associate Minister:

A Search Committee is meeting regularly at Union Baptist Church to extend our ministries to include an Associate Minister. The committee has identified the eight attributes that the church is looking for in an Associate Minister. They are based on information from the congregation, Church Council, and the Vision Team. In order of priority, they are:

Education
Program Development
Missions
Youth Ministry
Spiritual Life Development
Community Assessment/ Involvement
Evangelism
Ministry of the Laity Development

The new title of the position is Associate Minister of Education and Outreach. The name is an important change to reflect the responsibilities of the next Associate Minister. The committee is now are working with ABCCONN in receiving profiles and reviewing candidates.
