Groton Community Meals

Now at Groton Senior Center!!

Groton Community Meals (GCM) is an all volunteer, independent organization that serves free meals on Monday nights from 6 -7 pm at the Groton Senior Center.

The mission of the non-profit organization is to provide a free meal program for those seeking fellowship and nourishment. GCM is managed by an 11 person Board of Directors. It is a working board where every member is actively involved in day-to-day operations. GCM is a collaborative effort comprised of local churches, local businesses, Groton Human Services and the general public. The organization began serving meals on September 8, 2014 and has served 2,212 meals as of May 18, 2015. Meal guests are primarily from Groton, but all are welcome from any location. Approximately 65% of guests are age 18 to 59 years of age. 25% are age 60 plus and 10% are under the age of 18.

Cash donations from individuals and local churches and local community foundations have been GCM’s sole source of revenue to date. All donations to the organization are used in their entirety to purchase food, paper goods, cleaning supplies and mandatory licensing and certifications necessary to operate meal sites. Future goals of the organization are to continue the Monday night meal program year round and increase the average number of meals served. Long term, the group hopes to expand the evening meal program to other nights of the week from a permanent location in Groton or at different locations throughout Groton. GCM would not be possible without the sponsorship of our church. GCM operates under Union Baptist Church’s 501(c)( 3) non-profit status. If you would like more information about GCM meal locations, their donation wish list or volunteering, please contact the Church office at 860-536-9659.
